Press ReleasesPreserving Our Coastline: Protest at the offshore wind information event3/10/2024FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEWARK, D.E. -- The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is contemplating leasing land to US Wind for offshore wind power cables at 3Rs Beach in Delaware Seashore State Park, which has triggered significant public concern. DNREC will host an informational event on Tuesday, March 12th, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bethany Beach Town Hall (214 Garfield Parkway).
“The meeting will cover the potential lease to allow the underground cables at 3Rs Beach, which will include the construction plan and what the view will look like. However, the meeting will NOT cover or take comments about the wind turbines themselves and other possible parts of transmission lines.”-DNREC
If approved, this lease would set a precedent for massive industrialization from Cape Henlopen, DE, to the Ocean City, MD, inlet. It would also pose a significant financial burden for Delaware and its citizens.
“We invite all concerned citizens to attend where we can collectively express our perspectives in a respectful and constructive manner. Your presence will contribute to a thoughtful dialogue on the potential impacts of this proposed project. Together, we can make a positive impact while maintaining a respectful atmosphere.”- David Stevenson, CRI Director of Energy & Environmental Policy.
Below are critical concerns that DNREC has not engaged in constructive and open dialogue with the public about, but these concerns require immediate attention:
